Shell pearls also known as faux and miyorka(Majorca) pearls are a manmade pearl .  Because of this you can get a much larger and rounder pearl at a more affordable price.  It does not mean it's plastic.  See our FAQ page for a more indepth explanation.  Because of the process by which it was made the shell pearl is not as durable as the freshwater pearl so more care needs to taken when wearing and storing this pearl jewelry.  Also it's a good idea to store these pearls in the silk bag they come in to keep from scratching the surface of the pearl.  You can wash your faux pearls in warm soapy(use a mild soap like ivory), being careful to keep the pearls from scratching against one another, to protect them from your body oils.

The most important rule to remember is to always put your shell pearls on last when getting ready for your event - after the perfume and hairspray - for these could affect the surface of the shell pearl.
